This issue is difficult to solve because it largely depends on individual behaviour. However, nearly 15 years ago, Germany began developing biogas and biomethane production as a solution. People in need, or anyone looking to reduce food waste, can take what they need from the fridges free of charge. Community fridges help ensure that edible food is not wasted, while also promoting food equity within the community. Managed by volunteers and supported by local initiatives, these fridges serve as hubs for sustainable living, encouraging residents to actively participate in food redistribution and waste reduction efforts.
