Rather than limiting itself to introducing advanced academic programs, the city actively involves citizens of all ages, from students to adults, in various green initiatives.

Science and Innovation Promotion Center Mokslo Sala

An important role is played by the Science and Innovation Promotion Center Mokslo Sala, located on an island in the Nemunas River. This interactive museum encourages children, students, and curious minds of all ages to actively explore scientific phenomena. Through its exhibitions and workshops, it fosters creativity and inspires sustainable solutions to the challenges of everyday life.

Nemuno 7 (N7)

Nemuno7 is also worth mentioning. It's a cultural platform that offers the opportunity to carry out workshops and educational activities on recycling and sustainable design. By getting hands-on, students are able to invent new tools and become more eco-conscious.

CMK Circular Markerspace Kaunas Innolab

For those who have the will and desire to realize their green business ideas, Kaunas also plans to open an innovation space. This place will provide machines such as 3D printers, support from mentors, and a co-working environment. The goal is to bring sustainability directly into the creation of local start-ups and initiatives and to promote an innovative culture from an early age.

The Gamta Mieste (Nature in the City)

Getting the community involved is key. The Gamta Mieste project promotes collaboration between students, teachers, and parents, and encourages the creation of gardens and composting systems in schools and neighborhoods. Through horticultural workshops, children learn how to grow vegetables and flowers, thus gaining a basic understanding of ecology.

Keliaujantis Klimato Muziejus (Traveling Climate Museum)

Another example of the synergy between education and community is the Keliaujantis Klimato Muziejus (Traveling Climate Museum). This museum, housed in containers, travels through the neighborhoods of Kaunas, offering seminars, interactive installations, and moments of reflection on climate change. As a result, environmental education becomes a shared experience that connects people of all ages and educational backgrounds.

Šilainių sodai (Šilainiai Gardens)

Field education and community-based learning are among the most interesting good practices. Šilainių Sodai has transformed Kaunas’ Eighth Fort into a green space used for horticulture workshops, social events, and children's laboratories. Those who visit this place have the opportunity to learn how to take care of biodiversity, share information about agriculture, and also develop solidarity networks.

Creative House K.I.N.A.S Panemunė

Another example of how ingenuity and recycling can meet is Kūrybos namai K.I.N.A.S. (Panemunė). Here, with activities such as mending or restoration, the community is able to discover new ways to reduce waste and strengthen their manual skills. The atmosphere in which people learn is one of celebrating, dialogizing, and wanting to share and exchange opinions, suggestions, and ideas.

However, difficulties remain due to the lack of funding, the lack of specialized training of teachers, and also the lack of care on the part of families. This is because many people consider the cost of academic innovation to be too high or even too difficult to put into practice. Still, prospects are promising. The message that Kaunas wants to send is that the knowledge and information that can be acquired about environmental sustainability are inherent, above all, in the set of proposals that are implemented by the municipality in order to achieve the goals that have been set.
|
