Berlin, as a city, has a strong sense of community, and this community is involved in initiatives and events focused on creating a green city and promoting environmental sustainability. Here are some examples of where both citizens and tourists in Berlin can participate in environmental organizations, though this is definitely not an exhaustive list.

Bürgerbeteiligung (Citizen participation)

Residents have the opportunity to provide input on urban development plans, the creation of green spaces, and pedestrian-friendly areas. This is a great way to increase citizen participation in Berlin’s green urban planning.

Climate Action plans

The local Berlin government regularly organizes online surveys (such as for drinkable water fountain locations) and forums to gather ideas for its Climate-Neutral Berlin 2030 initiative. In this way, they encourage local engagement in the fight against climate change.

Repair cafés

Is something broken? No problem! There are repair cafés where volunteers can help fix items or furniture. This initiative promotes the circular economy and reduces waste.
