🌡️ Understanding the Crisis: Students Explore the Realities of Climate Change
In a recent educational event organized under the Responsive Youth for Climate Action (RYCA) project—co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union 🇪🇺—students took a deep dive into one of the most urgent challenges of our time: climate change.
Through a mix of theory, group collaboration, and creative expression, the event empowered students to understand the risks of climate inaction and encouraged them to think critically about their role in protecting the environment.
🧠 Theoretical Insights and Group Exploration
The day began with a presentation on climate change and its consequences, providing students with a strong foundation of knowledge. The session focused on:
- The causes and impacts of climate change
- Global and local risks, from extreme weather to rising sea levels
- The urgent need for environmental protection and climate adaptation
Following the presentation, students were divided into small research groups to further investigate the effects of climate change. They then came together to discuss how these changes are already affecting the world around them, from shifts in ecosystems to disruptions in daily life.
🎨 Creative Engagement and Critical Thinking
The second part of the event invited students to apply their knowledge through hands-on, peer-driven activities. Some groups developed climate-themed quizzes, putting their understanding to the test in a fun and interactive way. Others created artworks that powerfully expressed the emotional and ecological impact of the climate crisis.
Another highlight was the “Climate Call” game—a simulation exercise designed to teach decision-making in the face of environmental challenges. This game helped students understand the complex choices and trade-offs involved in climate action.
🌱 Empowering Future Stewards of the Planet
This multifaceted session not only deepened students’ knowledge of climate change but also:
- Fostered collaboration and dialogue
- Encouraged active problem-solving and creativity
- Inspired a greater sense of personal responsibility and environmental citizenship
The event emphasized that young people are not passive observers—they are vital voices in the climate conversation, with the power to influence change in their communities and beyond.
