From Local Knowledge to Collective Action: Launching the ECO GUIDE and Seed Library in Maracena
At the start of the year, the Youth Space of Maracena City Council took a meaningful step in empowering young people to act for the environment through an event that combined knowledge-sharing, community engagement, and hands-on action.
Held on January 14, the event served as the official launch of our ECO GUIDE, developed as part of the Response-Ability: Responsive Youth for Climate Action (RYCA) project, co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union 🇪🇺.
🌱 Introducing the ECO GUIDE: Best Practices from Maracena and Granada
The ECO GUIDE is the final output of the third work package of the RYCA project. It’s a collection of environmental best practices sourced directly from the Maracena and Granada regions—real-world examples of how local communities are tackling ecological challenges and embracing sustainability. From waste reduction to water conservation, the guide is a practical resource for anyone looking to implement change, grounded in our local realities.
🌾 Sowing Seeds of Change: A Community Seed Library
To connect with young people already involved in environmental efforts—and to inspire new ones—we took the opportunity to launch a unique initiative: the creation of a community seed library.
Throughout January, RYCA youth activators collaborated with the Youth Space to collect seeds from local participants, who were invited to donate to a growing collection that will be used for a spring reforestation campaign. The seed library was officially inaugurated during the event, symbolizing not just the start of a campaign, but a shared investment in the future of our local ecosystems.
🎉 An Engaging Event with a Purpose
This local event was more than a presentation—it was a celebration of collaboration, creativity, and environmental stewardship. It allowed us to:
- Share the tangible outcomes of the RYCA project with our community,
- Connect directly with youth interested in climate action,
- And set the foundation for future sustainability initiatives in Maracena.
đź’ˇ What Comes Next?
With the seed library in place and the ECO GUIDE in circulation, we’re building momentum for the months ahead. The upcoming reforestation campaign will bring these efforts to life across our local landscapes, and we’ll continue to involve young people every step of the way.
🌍 Stay tuned for more updates from the Response-Ability: Responsive Youth for Climate Action (RYCA) project and join us as we keep planting the seeds of change—locally and beyond.
